College hosts DECC leader for virtual presentation
Dan Hartman, executive director of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC), will present to the community as part of the 2021-22 Sandbulte Center for Ethical Leadership Speaker Series.
Named for retired chairman CEO of Minnesota Power Sandy Sandbulte, the speaker series is dedicated to fostering a robust discussion of ethics and their application in the Duluth community. This year鈥檚 series focuses on executives and entrepreneurs.
Hartman was announced as the DECC鈥檚 new executive director in May 2021 but his connection to the entertainment organization dates back to 2006 when he helped lead the UMD student campaign to build Amsoil Arena.
鈥淒an is sure to have some depth and breadth to share in his ethical leadership experiences having led the campaign to build the DECC as a senior in college and now moving into a key leadership role there,鈥� said Dr. Melissa Goodson, director of the Sandbulte Center. 鈥淢any of our student-athletes attend the speaker series and are familiar with the impact the DECC has made on the community.鈥�
Prior to joining the DECC, Hartman served as director of Glensheen Mansion for eight years. During his tenure, he was instrumental in rebranding the museum and increasing both visitorship and community relevance.
鈥淪ince my family relocated to Duluth from the Twin Cities just before the pandemic, our experiences with outdoor events at Glensheen became a highlight for us,鈥� Goodson said. 鈥淯nder Dan鈥檚 leadership, the team created a unique experience for locals and tourists. Our marketing students see Glensheen case studies as examples of creating a robust community.鈥�
