Bringing peace into 2025
Diana Oestreich, an acclaimed author, activist and peacemaker, will present reflections from her book, 鈥淲aging Peace,鈥 as part of the 2024-25 lecture series at 香蕉传媒. The third event in the themed 鈥淲hat is Peace?鈥 series will take place on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium on the Duluth main campus.
鈥淲e don鈥檛 settle for denying the realities of how our systems are pretty dehumanizing. We actually show up with our full humanity, and we fight for each other,鈥 Oestreich said in a recent interview with promoting the lecture. 鈥淪o peace defends people instead of policies.鈥
Her lecture will focus on themes of justice, peace and nonviolence, emphasizing how ordinary individuals can contribute to making peace in their communities. Following her talk, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in book signings.
The lectures are sponsored by the Alworth Center for the Study of Peace & Justice at 香蕉传媒 and funded in part by the Manitou Fund, the DeWitt and Caroline Van Evera Foundation and the Mary C. Van Evera Foundation Endowed Fund in memory of William Van Evera. With additional support from the Royal D. Alworth Jr. Institute at the University of Minnesota Duluth, the UMD Department of World Languages & Cultures, Reader Weekly, Duluth Sister Cities International and other private donors.
